How can we help?

Services available to children and adults of all abilities. Assessment and therapy sessions can be conducted in English, Mandarin, Cantonese or Bahasa Melayu at your request.  儿童成人言语治疗评估与治疗。治疗师精通英语、普通话、粤语,并且备基础的马来语能力。服务包括早期干预,语言能力,流利表达,社交技能。

Early Intervention

Early Intervention is for children ages birth to 3 and their families. Research indicates early intervention helps children become more effective communicators which decreases frustration and negative behaviours. 

  • Expanding vocabulary (nouns and verbs)
  • Combining 2-3 words to speak in phrases
  • Supporting speech and language to be easier to understand
  • Improving ability to follow instructions
  • Improving play skills

School-aged

Early language difficulties that persist into school-aged years can continue to impact a child’s academic, social, and emotional development. School-aged children are expected to use language for various complex tasks, such as reading, writing, participating in classroom discussions, and forming friendships. When language difficulties are present, they can affect a child’s overall school experience and interactions with peers and teachers.

  • Supporting speech and language to be easier to understand
  • Expressing their wants, needs, thoughts and ideas more clearly
  • Improving reading, comprehension, and spelling skills
  • Expanding vocabulary, grammar, and improving sentence structure

Stuttering

People with a stutter may repeat parts of words (repetitions), stretch a sound out for a long time (prolongations), or have a hard tie getting a word out (blocks).

  • The Lidcombe Program is implemented with the goal of helping young children achieve more fluent speech while also reducing their anxiety and emotional reactions to stuttering

Social Skills

Social skills relate to a person’s ability to engage with others through interaction and communication (verbal and non-verbal). A person’s ability to develop their social skills, impacts on the way they interpret and behave in social settings.

  • Engaging in meaningful social communication and building strong social connections
  • Building understanding of themselves and other people in different social situations

The following services incur an additional charge based on the hourly rate and will only be carried out upon your request.

  • Planning meetings
  • Consultation with parents, educators, and other third parties
  • Home program development and preparation
  • NDIA summary reports
  • Other individual requests e.g. viewing home practice video sessions and providing additional feedback
